Good news for anyone who has made the Buford Corn Maze part of their fall. It isn’t going away, and it isn’t leaving town. The maze has a new home lined up right here in Buford.
Back in August, I wrote about the rumors that the corn maze was closing. At that point the owners had only said they were looking at options. Now we have an answer.
Where the Buford Corn Maze is going
The maze plans to move to a 12-acre site on Buford Highway at the end of Carter Road. The move was announced at the City of Buford’s monthly meeting on Monday, October 12, 2026.
The new land is being leased from the City of Buford’s Urban Redevelopment Agency. That’s a good sign. It means the city wanted to keep this tradition inside city limits, and it made that happen.
Why the corn maze has to move
The maze has been at 4470 Bennett Road for years. The owner of that land decided to sell it for commercial development. Warehouses have been proposed for the property.
The owners have been clear about one thing. The land being sold and the business being sold are two different things. The Buford Corn Maze has not been sold, and it is not closing.
They also said the maze means as much to them as it does to the community. After the last few months of worry on local Facebook pages, that was nice to hear.
When will the new site open?
The maze’s lease at its current location off of Friendship Road runs through January 2028, so it can keep operating there until then.
The Gainesville Times reported the new site is expected to open by Labor Day 2027. The owners haven’t announced an official opening date yet. I’ll update this post when they do.
Can I still go this fall?
Yes. The 2026 season is running now at its current location off of Friendship Road, near Exit 8 on I-985. Check bufordcornmaze.com for current hours and tickets before you go, since hours shift as the season winds down.
More than a corn maze
The Buford Corn Maze has been part of fall here for more than 15 years. It’s been named one of the top corn mazes in the country by Country Living magazine.
The owners also give back. Last year the maze helped fund a playground at Sugar Hill Elementary School built to better serve children with special needs. The first phase of that playground is already finished.
That’s the kind of local business you want to keep around.
Why this matters if you live here
I’ve lived in Buford since 2003. A lot has changed around here, and plenty of it is growth people are glad to see. But growth also means some of the places that made us love living here get pushed out.
This time, the city found a way to keep one. When someone asks me what it’s like to live in Buford, things like this are part of the answer.
